Mission Santa Barbara was started in 1786 on the feast day of Saint Barbara and was the 10th church to convert natives to Catholicism. The mission includes a filter house, Spanish gristmill, sections of aqueducts, and two reservoirs used as part of the city’s water system. The park includes a visitors’ centre and is managed by the California Department of Parks and Recreation. Royal Presidio of Santa Barbara, usually known as El Presidio, used to be a military installation started during King Carlos III’s time. Founded as a way of expanding government benefits for residents of the Santa Barbara Channel region of California, nowdays the construction receives millions of visitors thanks to its architecture and history.
