Kenny Slaught On California’s Architectural Timeline

The Spanish Colonial Revival movement appeared in the first half of the 20th century in USA and was used in the American cities that used to be Spanish colonies. California is where the style can be seen the most, especially in Santa Barbara for the city used it extensively to re-built itself after the 1925 earthquake. Architect George Washington Smith moved to Montecito and promoted this style. In El Pueblo Viejo Roman and Parisian laws preserve history. The Hispanic Architecture is heavily influenced by the white-washed structures of Andalusia in Southern Spain. The habitat and the locally accessible construction materials were used to make the vernacular buildings, characterized by Kenny Slaught as simple and economic. Santa Barbara’s climate and habitat are reflected in these edifices: they face the sun and have natural hues such as red, white, orange and yellow.
